Distillation Column Systems

Distillation is used to separate components in a feed mixture based upon their relative boiling points. A simple, continuous distillation column can make the separation between two components into two product streams. In multi-component systems, the two main components to be separated are designated as the light and heavy keys. The light key is the more volatile component in greater purity in the top product stream, and the heavy key is the less volatile component in greater purity in the bottom product stream.

While the demand for other industrial equipment rises and falls based on various factors, the need for top quality distillation equipment is always in relevance. This is primarily because of the widespread requirement of distillation units across various industries, ranging all the way from oil refineries to pharmaceuticals and even food processing. Also, at a macro level, there are multiple methods of industrial separation. But when we take a closer look, the most prevalent type of separation technology used is definitely fractional distillation.

Finepac Structures, one of the most reliable names in the industrial world, facilitates comprehensive distillation units within its mass transfer technology division. Right from understanding the client’s requirements, the structural layout, space availability to designing the distillation equipment, installing and further providing maintenance services, Finepac does everything to ensure client satisfaction, equipment safety, and sustainability. Scroll down to go through the various aspects of Finepac’s distillation units.

Every modular system is comprised of columns, column internals, vessels, heat exchangers, pumps and other process equipment, thus constituting the entire process unit. With the comprehensive and qualifying experience and expertise built over the years, Finepac facilitates optimized distillation solutions that are apt for pilot plants to commercial production units.

The Functionality of a Finepac Distillation Column :

If you look at the basic diagram of this column, which many of us, would definitely have come across in a textbook or encyclopedia, the basic parts are as follows:-
The main elongated column for distillation, appropriately bifurcated into distillation plates and feeds, for the vapours to be progressing upwards and being fractionated according to their condensation point

The bottom chamber where the contaminated liquid or mixture is stored and thereon vaporized an attached Reboiler System along with collection area for Steam Condensate
The Distillation Unit, of course, needs to be attached to a Reflux Drum and Pump along with Condensing Unit.
The various types of distillation include batch distillation, vacuum distillation, steam distillation, extractive distillation, and azeotropic distillation processes, to name a few.
At the end of the day, the validity and application of any process are determined by its industry-specific applications. Also, the effective use of packing material as opposed to regular trays enhances the efficiency of the entire procedure. This is especially in vogue because the vapors can easily pass via the wet surface while the liquids wet the surface appropriately, for the process to be carried out seamlessly.
